Hi everybody! For my first blog post, I wanted to talk about something that both me and my family have been struggling with for a while.
Last year, I began to realize that I would always feel a little extra "down" when I was on my period. I didn't take much notice of it until a friend talked to me about it a little more and we discovered that my feelings could have become a little more dangerous to my mental health if I didn't tell anybody how I'd been feeling.
I then talked to my doctor, and I was prescribed an antidepressant called fluoxetine. It turns out that my Mom had also struggled with depressive feelings related to her period, and my symptoms had most likely resulted from a combination of genetics and a specific chemical imbalance for depression that was stronger at "that time of the month."
Now, I am noticing a great increase in my mood and mental health overall since beginning the antidepressants! I think it is very important for the menstruating community to support each other and encourage self care and positive mental health!
Tell me what you think in the comments, and thank you for reading!
